Issue Eight – Happy Independence Day!
Keeping It Going!
Two months since the first issue of The Weekly Checkin and I’m proud of myself for keeping this going! I may not have been completely consistent à la day of the week, but with one week “skipped” and this one being a few days past the intended Friday deadline (it hit me Tuesday that I completely forgot about my blog), I have still made it a point to check in “weekly” and still enjoy the process of writing these articles.
It’s Been Busy!!!
On Tuesday it hit me….I never wrote my post on Friday! Hell! I didn’t even think about it (as far as I can remember). In trying to remember what I did Friday in lieu of blogging, I couldn’t.
Here’s what I could think of:
– I was tired; it’s been busy at the shop and my mind was on other things
– I’ve been prioritizing my health lately (fitness, nutrition, and sleep) and may have run out of the time/bandwidth to think about it
In reviewing the record, I was working late at the shop, in an effort to get organized and stay on top of my project load. The girls went to Mama’s house for dinner. I got home around 9pm, put the girls to bed and then went to bed.
Saturday morning, I went to CycleBar and then went back to the shop until it was time to go home and cook dinner.
Sunday, our good friend Lana treated us to a Tampa Bay Rays game with a Puppy Day perk.
Last Week in Review
Theme of the week was progress, subject matter: Health.
Post doctor and dentist visit(s) update:
My cholesterol is a little out of whack and it’s a good time to get my health under control (as in better NOW than later). I should experience benefits from eating a more Mediterranean, Plant-based, High Fiber, no added sugar, protein-focused diet and sticking with my fitness plan.
My teeth are plaque free and clean! Moving forward: Continue flossing, brushing, waterpik-ing every night / brushing and mouth rinsing (Listerine Gum Therapy) every morning.
I can happily report that I’ve been ambitiously and consciously making the correct nutritional decisions and fulfilling my fitness schedule (with the exception of today, which I am pushing to tomorrow because of the holiday that is the Fourth of July).
My oral hygiene routine has continued to be an integral part of my “go to bed” and “get ready” rituals.
At the shop, business as been busy and most of the time was dedicated to ensuring production was on schedule and that the necessary project pieces were/are in place.
Things I’m Working On
Planning: I’ve begun writing out a daily task schedule in my Supernote. So far it has been the most natural action in my attempts to plan. I essentially write out the times I have to do non-negotiables (like picking up the girls from camp) and then fill in the gaps with the tasks I need to complete/get started during the available time. This process started this past Sunday and has been working out well with keeping me on track. As things pop-up, I add them to the appropriate time slot. Items not completed are easily pushed to the next day.
Reading: I purchased several books that have been on my list. Starting with James Clear’s “Atomic Habits”, I am reading when I can for as long as I can.
Podcast: It’s been a thought everyday and it’s still been two weeks since my “last” Live episode where I declared doing pre-recorded episodes. The first hold up was that I wanted to outline my Core Five so that I could have a guide to what I was going to say; I finally “completed” this yesterday. A back-of-mind excuse was needing to stay on top of production in the shop; which is true, but didn’t necessarily prevent me from recording something. The good news is, it’s built into my schedule to record tomorrow right after I blast through the last 25 backpacks for 360 Legal.
X (formerly known as Twitter): I’ve never truly given it a chance in the past, always preferring Facebook and Instagram (in the past). I just recently realized that it is a simple way to document in the moment thoughts and ideas that I am willing to share with the Universe and can ultimately use for my blogs and podcast efforts.
Off to Celebrate the United States of America
I did it! I wrote my “weekly” checkin. Clara is up from her nap and it is time for us to go celebrate America with friends.
Happy Independence Day to you all! <Que ‘Star Spangled Banner’>
