The Weekly Checkin – 6/23/2024

Issue Seven – Reality Check

A Few Updates from Issue Six

I did not let another week go by! Evidence: this post right here. I even put out a podcast with an update that I am going to start prerecording the episodes to help promote production value.

The gutters at the shop have been repaired. The gutter guy came out, caulked and cleaned up the gutters around my shop. They also added an additional downspout to help take the load off the other two existing downspouts.

The landlord stopped by over the weekend after a rain and reported that there didn’t seem to be any water getting in. <Fingers crossed> There are more rainy days ahead (including today). Current mode: Observe and Report.

This Week

Production at the shop is still rolling along. Ideas for the business and self are still occurring and I’m taking action on initiatives as they work out.

I managed to make it through the week of parenting solo, too. Not that I had any doubts, but everything went smoothly. Clara was on relatively great behavior and Audrey was super helpful the night/morning I had both girls to myself.

Very glad to have Amanda back home!

Health Highlights

In preparation for my annual doctor visit (tomorrow), I had gotten my bloodwork done. The results brought about concerns regarding my cholesterol and heart health.

I have begun making the necessary changes in hopes to change the direction of these results.

Nutritionally, I am moving towards a whole foods, plant-based diet; cutting out processed items, sugar, and boosting seafood, chicken, vegies, fruits, and fiber.

Physically, I’ve decided to stick with a day of CycleBar on the weekends and then getting back on a Tuesday AND Thursday morning gym routine. I will also be adding daily walking into the mix with a 30 minute minimum on the treadmill and a purpose to exceed my OURA step count goals.

We’ll see what more the PA and I discuss tomorrow, but I’m seriously done with making choices that will only fail me (I’m looking at you convenience eating monster in the guise of fast food restaurants and the Standard American Diet (SAD)).

After the PCP, is a visit to the dentist to get the teeth on the left side of my mouth taken care of with a round of Scaling and Root Planing. The joys of going way to long without going to the dentist for a cleaning.

I lost the pictures of what my teeth looked like before I started getting them taken care of, but the difference between then and now is certainly visible. My gums weren’t as bad as some of the images Google presents and my teeth are still cavity-free and healthy, but the stubborn neglect allowed issues to set in (such as gum disease and bone loss). Now. I’m taking the steps that are prescribed to improve the conditions and prolonging keeping my teeth in my mouth as long as possible.

Great Gatsby in Englewood, FL

A good friend of Amanda’s (that was there the night we met and the other half of the following day’s double date) turned 40 and her husband put together a very well done 1920s era Gatsby party.

Everyone dressed up and had a grand time celebrating our friend that had a recent battle with cancer and came out a survivor. It was a fantastic night!

Sunday Funday!

Started off with a CycleBar class, did some health food grocery shopping, stopped by the shop, went home and hung out with Clara while Amanda was in her CycleBar class and shopping for more groceries.

Amanda and I had our bi-weekly spousal review and family goals guided by, what I like to call, The Core 5: Health, Wealth, Relationships, Spirituality, and Hobbies/Interests/Activities.

Then we went to dinner at her parents’ house, came home, put a ‘bean’ to bed, wrapped up our weekly prep, I sat down to finish this post and now it is time for bed.

Good night!

P.S. I will be recording a podcast episode tomorrow, after my appointments, discussing where I stand with the Core 5.
