Hello, my name is Zachary Davy and I am human.
I too have found myself “stuck” in over analyzing the “right” decisions to make.
I too have felt a roller coaster of emotions between depression and anxiety around decisions and experiences that I have faced, am facing, and anticipate facing.
I too have wondered and wandered….and sometimes (often) spent more time thinking about the thing than doing the thing.
Whether you call it analysis paralysis, overthinking, or mental masturbation, I have found that the thinking is often the starting place for the actions that I take.
Sure, I have the thoughts about the concept of “Ready, Fire, Aim” where it is recommended that you take immediate action without thinking “too much” about it. For me, the actions begin with the thinking that gets me READY to FIRE and have been pretty comfortable readjusting the AIM of whatever direction the actions take me.
One step at a time, One foot in front of the other with an occasional side step, hop or jump.
Let’s use this very website as a case study…
I bought the domain of my name a few years ago with an idea around creating something that sung the tune of a “personal brand”. There was an internal conflict for me to work out. I was getting more and more tired of the influencer, trend heavy scene of the typical social media platforms and I have a business that takes priority when it comes to my marketing efforts.
Over the last few years, I invested in business coaching programs covering mindset, sales, and marketing (mostly social media platform centric). I found a magnetic pull towards podcasting and blogging. I even bought and setup a mic and a webcam.
Struggling to keep up with everything, I deleted the social apps off of my phone, which lead to a greater sense of peace and improved focus on the things that truly matter to me: my daughters, my wife, and my business.
I also found more time to reflect on my thoughts and began documenting ideas by capturing videos of myself talking to the camera on my phone or writing in my journal or random pieces of paper.
Eventually, I started recording a couple of Live episodes on YouTube (complete with cover art creation) with the intent of recording at least one a week. I got two episodes in, went on vacation, came back with a full production schedule in my embroidery business and have yet to record another episode.
I did create the cover art and bullet points for “Episode 3: Why am I doing this?” which has been further delayed by more demand at the workshop which led to me rearranging the layout of my shop to increase flow and efficiency. The side thought and bonus to the new layout is a better space and scene for camera (ie: better lighting, a more organized and clean shop/studio).
Through consumption of other podcasts, more ideas and inspiration came to the surface and this website/blog was created as a hub for the facets, buckets, and projects I am working on.
With no forethought on what this website is going to look like, I opened up another site on my SiteGround account and just started building. We will see where this goes and what it becomes. The motion is forward.
